This message took me back to the time of my conversion to Christ, when I was in utter despair. That despair caused great consternation in Bev, my wife, for she had no idea what was happening.

Long story short, when I cried out of my despair for my soul, knowing that I was sinful from head to toe and with no hope, I cried out to Jesus Christ to save me from my sin. Since that moment in time [June, 1964, as I recall], each time I hear the third verse of "And Can it Be?", I cry quietly, remembering both the utter despair and then the marvelous revival and relief in my soul. Here is that verse, and it captures my own experience almost eactly:

    "Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light
My chains fell off, my heart was free
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee
Amazing love! How can it be
That Thou, my God shouldst die for me?"

Ger, your message brought all this to my mind once again. That woman and that child have nothing on me! The same Savior healed me from my death in sin.
